We're Back--but not Quite!

We’ve been digitally absent for some time now and wanted to provide a brief update to bring everyone up to speed with the company’s happenings, achievements, etc. Huge thanks to all who have kept up with IDI, have referred us, HIRED us, and have shared the company’s social media posts. IDI’s growth has been entirely organic and we’re grateful for the insulative tribe whose connection to IDI helps us stay true to ourselves.

What’s new? While several major projects have been completed these past few years, the company has grown and we have a new office space in Industry City where our principals and STAFF work. Covid-19 changed many dynamics to our movement in the world, and as things open back up we’re grateful to mindfully get “back” to “normal”.

2018: The highlight of this year was the above filmed collaboration for New York Magazine, The Cut, and Delta Faucets, speaking on “Designing for the Future”. IDI’s Creative Director Niya Bascom’s statement “We’re designing for your tomorrows” was a visceral summation of IDI’s work and, per the title of this entry, has stuck with us ever since…

Also 2018: We completed our Whitehouse, Jamaica project. This was a massive full-service project on the island of Jamaica, building up/out a 16000 sq. ft. oceanfront villa.

A creative and geographic challenge, every stage of the process from construction to décor pushed in directions we’d long-desired to go as a firm, and exemplifying our work as luxury ecosystems. Traveling between USA and the Caribbean, we worked with an abundance of premium found/reclaimed/upcycled local natural materials and cocreated alongside various local artisans to build a bespoke, luxury villa and ancillary facilities nearly completely filled with all custom original design work by Ishka Designs.

2019: The Family Bench, a terrazzo and white oak piece was designed by Ishka Designs in collaboration with Bellboy New York, Remik Concrete, and textile artist Dosia Sanford for the Timber! exhibit here at Industry City, curated by Hannah Martin for Wanted Design Brooklyn.

Elle Decor A-List 2019-2021 .

From 2019-2021 Ishka Designs made Elle Decor’s A-List.

Winter 2021: New update! At this point we’re members of the Black Artist and Designers’ Guild, a nonprofit organization founded by the formidable Malene Barnett, fellow designer and artisan. The Obsidian House was the guild’s debut collaboration, a virtual concept house recognizing the spectrum of creativity amongst us. Ishka Designs designed an outdoor oasis called “The Atlantic”. Tour the concept house here.

2021: Architectural Digest featured our Tribeca project online!

2022: IDI was selected to be on the 1stDibs50 2022 list honoring top architects and interior designers in the luxury space. This honor gave us the chance to celebrate the grandiose moment that was completing the Whitehouse, Jamaica project.

More in 2022: Interiors platform LuxDeco recently listed Ishka Designs as one of 15 Top Modern Interior Design Firms.

2022: As of this year our monthly journal has started back up again! We’re currently working on issue 4. Sign up above to get themed updates about the company.

We’re glad to be “back” with our digital communication—and that after 15 years we are still around, still building out our body of work as authentic luxury environments for our amazing, trusting clients. We couldn’t ask for anything better than the opportunity to co-create in this dynamic way. There are more changes we’ll talk about later but these updates are the highlights from the past several years. Be sure to visit our PRESS PAGE for even more of IDI’s top moments.

Best to you!
